God of war, son of Zeus and Hera. In combat, he fought on foot and rarely on chariots with four horses, which drew flames from their nostrils and were children of North and Erinya. According to legend, Cadmus, the Theban monarch, killed a dragon that was the son of Ares. Enraged, God made him his servant for a year and forced him to sow the dragon's teeth to the earth to grow wild warriors. With a clever plan of Cadmus, they killed each other and survived only five, who were the first citizens of Thebes. Later, Ares reconciled with Cadmus and gave him Harmonia, his daughter of Venus, as his wife. The main symbols of Mars were the spear and the lit torch.
